I know its possible to operate a PS3 with the Re IR blaster but I can't seem to find the correct IR code. I figured it would be listed under "Video Accessory" under the Sony category, but that hasn't done it. Does anyone have this information?

Did you try using Blu-Ray in the Sony Category? I don't personally have a Playstation 3 and therefore cannot test it.

The Re, like any other IR remote, requires a Bluetooth to IR converter to operate the PS3. There are several available, but the only ones we have verified are the Schmartz brand converters available on Amazon. Schmartz is in our brand list. Select Schmartz DVD to control the PS3. You can also use the Schmartz converter with several Sony DVD codes.

Can someone explain why when an iphone has bluetooth and a ps3 has bluetooth there needs to be a converter?
I know that may sound pedestrian, but it seems it should be able to sync.

As near as we can determine, the Bluetooth profile for communicating with the PS3 is not available from Apple. In order to control the PS3 directly from the iPhone or iPod it is likely that Sony would have to go through Apple's MFI program to approve the PS3 as an Apple approved accessory. That's probably not going to happen. Alternatively, Apple could just decide to support the PS3 profile, and let App developers us it to develop a PS3 remote. So, though it seems obvious that the Re App should just be able to talk directly to the PS3, it requires lots of other cooperation.
Meanwhile, the Re can send IR signals to a separate device, like the Schmartz, which converts the information and communites via Bluetooth to the PS3.

Support for the Schmartz adapters are great news. We have noticed that the Audio Authority codes have been in the database and those will work with the RE-BL X adapter as well but now that the Schmartz units are in the database it means a Re user may choose between the inexpensive PS3IRX1 USB adapter or the powerful PS3IR1000 with power-sensing capability!
Keep up the great work. We love the RE!

I just purchased a Schmartz PS3IRX1 and can confirm that it does not allow the Re to control my PS3. Do you need to generate an updated code? (the PS3 just updated it's software, and I'm using an iPhone 4). Please advise.

Can someone respond to madhuv's post above as this is a make or break situation for me. I would have preferred to be able to use BT instead of a dongle and I don't intend to pay $90 for the powerful PS3IR1000 one so being able to get an affordable remote is paramount to me.

Also, while we're at it. Anybody tried the Nyko BluWave Infrared Remote for Sony PlayStation 3 with this app ? This remote is easy to find and inexpensive so it would also be an interesting alternative.

Hi,
Sorry for the long delay in replying to your post. I evidently missed it. We verified that the Shmartz PS3IRX1 does work with the Re. Did you use the Schmartz code, or a Sony DVD code? Both have been verified to work. The PS3IRX1 does not turn on power because it is plugged into the USB port on the PS3, but other controls for the PS3 Blu-ray work.

The Schmartz PS3IRX1 does work with the Re. It does not control power on since the converter gets power from the PS3 USB port.

We're in the process of testing one at a beta site. I'll post the results when I get them.

I tested a couple of the low cost PS3 remotes that work with an IR to USB dongle that plugs into the PS3 box over the weekend. Both respond to the same codes as Schmartz, all PS2 codes and several Sony DVD codes. One was a Gigaware from Radio Shack. It worked fine on all the buttons other than the menu arrows which can be learned. The other remote was a "no-brand" from eBay that worked great. I expect that most of these units from China will work with the Re. Some learning may be required, and remember you can't control power to the PS3 with these USB devices.

I managed to use the Schmartz code to power the PS3 and the arrow keys and OK key work fine. The on/off seems to be the main ps3 button. No other key seems to work, although I haven't tried a blu-ray for the movie specific buttons.
how are people getting control over the symbol buttons, ie triangle, square etc?

Which PS3 adapter are you using?

I recently purchased the Re and PS3IR-X1. I am using Schmartz,DVD and IR Code 2367 to control my PS3. The arrow keys, ok button DVD controls(play pause, ff, etc) are all working however I haven't figured out how to get the following PS3 functions working via the Re:
- PS button(on/off button doesn't work for me contrary to posts in these forums)
- eject button on the pre-set DVD remote (it does nothing)
- Symbol keys(x,o,triangle,square).
In some online reviews of the PS3IR-X1 Schmartz device I've read that it does not have functionality for the PS button, but is there someway to workaround that with a macro on the Re? I've tried all the pre-set DVD buttons(including the Red, Green, Yellow Blue) that show up but none of them are doing the above 3 functions that I list.
Also is there a way to prevent the Re top/bottom margins from hiding/showing whenever double-tapping in the remote area? I find I often accidentally double tap on the remote and then the location of the buttons changes when the margins come in causing me to push wrong buttons. I'm using an iPad 1.

The PS3IR-X1 generally supports the DVD functions. It does not have an IR code for the Eject button or the PS button. The X,O,Triangle and Square buttons are not supported in our database implementation.
I do not know of a workaround for the PS button. The problem is that the USB port does not supply power to operate the PS3IR-X1 until the PS3 power is on. So its a bit of a Catch 22.
We are considering an update to the Schmartz device codes to provide full coverage for both models. I'll post here when that is complete.
The double tap is a feature to give a full screen view while using the remote. Currently there is not a way to lock the view.

We have added two new Custom Remotes for the PS3 and Schmartz interface devices.
The 1st device supports the Schmartz PS3IR-1000 with its full button set. Set it up as:
Brand: PS3-Schmartz
Type: Blu-ray/HD-DVD
IR Code: 2367-2
The 2nd device supports the Schmartz PS3IR-X1 with its full button set. Set it up as:
Brand: PS3-Schmartz
Type: Blu-ray/HD-DVD
IR Code: 2367-3
Check them out and let me know if you find any issues.

Thanks for the very prompt response. I tried the new device code with the Schmartz PS3IR-X1 and it worked great!
When I was asking about the PS button, I was actually referring to when the PS3 system is already on(and Schmartz should be powered), it would be nice to be able to bring-up the menu that allows one to Quit the current running program, shut off the system as well as some other options. Based on the Schmartz website it seems that's a limitation of the model that I have. That's alright though as I am able to workaround this with some extra steps using the Exit button or choosing turn off system from the PS3 main menu.
