Hi,

I just bought a Samsung UN55D8000 LED TV.
There is only partial support in "Re" for this Samsung remote. Basically only a small subset of the keys are supported.
I suspect that is the case with other new remotes.

Do you plan to add the full remote soon? This TV model is out for almost a year and from what I know is quite popular.
As is, "Re" cannot replace the original remote for daily use.

Also is hard to know what IR-code maps to your remote. How are you supposed to know that. I did a trial and error approach…
Are you planning to find an easier way of matching your original remote?

The Re database supports several Samsung IR codes that are designed to fit across several models. The codes contain the primary functions for menu control, volume, channel control in addition to discrete selection of inputs and power control for most units. As the new models come out, sometimes buttons may change from the generic labels. Input selections being a common example where the mapping may be different for different models.

The Re is also a learning remote. You can use the learning function to add the buttons you need to replicate the new functions, details in the online manual on the support page http://www.newkinetix.com/support. This is the traditional way universal remotes can stay current. You can customize your device remotes to mimic the original in labeling and layout with the editing tools.

A feature of the Re support not available for other universal remotes is that we do add custom remotes to support specific models upon request. I will check to see if we have a newer code set for the 8000 series Samsung, and add it if available.

Regarding finding the correct code, we organize the codes to put the most popular for a brand first. So normally it will be the best for newer models. You can use the auto search to find candidate codes, but to determine the "best" code may take some validation. That is why we include the test remote screen in IR code selection. At this time, we do not have access to specific model numbers for look up in the database.

Thanks for the prompt reply.
I found a better IR code match for my remote so everything works fine. At least now I can fully replace my other remotes for daily use.
But I found one bug on the iPhone version of the software.
The dash "-" when you set a favorites channel is not recognized by the TV. so a channel that is 4-1 comes up as 41.
The iPad version works fine! The problem is only on the iPhone version.

Also if I go to the TV remote and type "4-1" works fine from my iPhone. Is only when I set a favorites channel that the dash "-" does not work.

Good. I'm glad you found a good IR Code match. I can't reproduce the problem you see with favorites. The iPad and iPhone both work for me in sending the "-" key. It is possible that what you see is the tuner not responding to the 3 key sequence of 4-1 as fast as it is sent by the iPhone. Try the following on the iPhone setup. Go to the device settings in Rooms for the tuner device. The bottom setting controls Inter-key delay. Change that value on your iPhone to 500ms and try the favorites selection again. You can try different inter-key delay settings to find the optimal setting.

I think the problem was the name of the "-" button on the TV remote I selected.
It was named "Channel -" instead of "Dash".
Once I renamed it to "Dash" the favorites macro worked.

One other thing….
Always when I use the Activity "On/Off" button I get a message box with "Did the macro worked correctly? Yes/No".
Regardless of what I answer I get it again and again.

The question can be turned off in the macro definition screen. It appears to allow correction if a macro fails, but the option to turn the query off is there if it isn't wanted
