Hi,
I just bought a Samsung UN55D8000 LED TV.
There is only partial support in "Re" for this Samsung remote. Basically only a small subset of the keys are supported.
I suspect that is the case with other new remotes.
Do you plan to add the full remote soon? This TV model is out for almost a year and from what I know is quite popular.
As is, "Re" cannot replace the original remote for daily use.
Also is hard to know what IR-code maps to your remote. How are you supposed to know that. I did a trial and error approach…
Are you planning to find an easier way of matching your original remote?
The Re database supports several Samsung IR codes that are designed to fit across several models. The codes contain the primary functions for menu control, volume, channel control in addition to discrete selection of inputs and power control for most units. As the new models come out, sometimes buttons may change from the generic labels. Input selections being a common example where the mapping may be different for different models.
The Re is also a learning remote. You can use the learning function to add the buttons you need to replicate the new functions, details in the online manual on the support page http://www.newkinetix.com/support. This is the traditional way universal remotes can stay current. You can customize your device remotes to mimic the original in labeling and layout with the editing tools.
A feature of the Re support not available for other universal remotes is that we do add custom remotes to support specific models upon request. I will check to see if we have a newer code set for the 8000 series Samsung, and add it if available.
Regarding finding the correct code, we organize the codes to put the most popular for a brand first. So normally it will be the best for newer models. You can use the auto search to find candidate codes, but to determine the "best" code may take some validation. That is why we include the test remote screen in IR code selection. At this time, we do not have access to specific model numbers for look up in the database.
